Subacute (de Quervain's) thyroiditis.
Figure 1. Intermediate-power microscopy shows the eosinophilic colloid-filled follicles at the periphery. In many follicles in the center, the epithelium has been replaced by the inflammatory reaction and the colloid is reduced or absent. Microabscess formation with foreign-body-type giant cells can be seen. Figure 2. A: The colloid is engulfed by the ring of foreign-body-type giant cells with ...
متن کاملThyroid function during the spontaneous course of subacute thyroiditis.
A study of changes in serum T4, T3, and Tg as well as of serum TSH response to TRH was done in ten patients with subacute thyroiditis, from the acute phase up to 56 mo. All patients had symptoms of thyrotoxicosis. The mean +/- s.e.m. serum T4 (21.6 +/- 8.2 micrograms/dl), T3 (315 +/- 191 ng/dl) and Tg (149 +/- 52 ng/ml) concentrations were significantly higher than in normal subjects (8.5 +/- 1...
متن کاملAtypical presentation of subacute thyroiditis.
Subacute thyroiditis is extremely rare during the first decade of life. We describe a case of subacute thyroiditis in a 2 year old child whose initial clinical, sonographic, and radioisotopic features were indistinguishable from acute suppurative thyroiditis. The diagnosis was established by a raised antibody titre against adenovirus and typical increased thyroid function tests.
متن کاملCould Riedel's thyroiditis be subacute thyroiditis? A case report.
Our purpose in this paper is to make a case for the need to question whether Riedel's thyroiditis is in fact a rare variety of subacute thyroiditis. Total thyroidectomy was performed on a patient with a huge thyroid mass. The histopathological diagnosis was Riedel's thyroiditis with classical lymphoplasmacytic infiltration destroying thyroid tissue and invading perithyroidal soft tissue. Howeve...
متن کاملSalivary C-Reactive Protein in Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Subacute Thyroiditis
C-reactive protein (CRP), an acute-phase reactant, has been identified as a saliva-based biomarker of inflammation. The objective of the study was to estimate and compare salivary CRP levels in Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and Subacute thyroiditis (SAT). The study included 30 HT patients who presented with clinical features of hypothyroidism, 15 SAT patients who presented with clinical features...
